Behind the Scan

What Is Privacy Check?

Privacy Check is a free, AI-powered tool that analyzes your email address or username for digital privacy risks. In seconds, it evaluates observable patterns in your input and generates a personalized security score along with actionable recommendations tailored specifically to what it finds.

Unlike other security tools that simply check databases of known breaches, Privacy Check uses advanced artificial intelligence to assess the inherent privacy risks in how your email or username is structured. This means you get insights that go beyond "was this in a breach" — you get an understanding of how exposed your digital identity is by design.

The tool was built on a simple principle: everyone deserves to understand their digital privacy posture without needing a cybersecurity degree. Our AI translates complex security concepts into plain language, giving you clear, prioritized steps to improve your protection.

How the Analysis Works

When you submit your email or username, our system performs a multi-dimensional analysis covering several key privacy factors. The entire process takes just a few seconds and runs through our secure AI backend.

01

Input Reception & Validation

Your email or username is received and validated. We check only the format and structure — no personal data is stored, logged, or associated with your device or identity at this stage.

02

AI Pattern Analysis

Our AI model examines dozens of observable patterns: Does the input contain your real name? A birth year? A location reference? Common dictionary words? Sequential numbers? Patterns associated with commonly targeted accounts? Each factor is weighted to produce an overall risk assessment.

03

Security Score Calculation

Based on the pattern analysis, a privacy score from 0 to 100 is calculated. Scores of 80 and above indicate strong privacy patterns. Scores between 55 and 79 indicate areas for improvement. Scores below 55 indicate significant privacy risks that should be addressed promptly.

04

Personalized Recommendations

The AI generates four specific, actionable security tips tailored to what it observed in your particular input. These are not generic security advice — they are recommendations based on the specific patterns and risks identified in your email or username.

05

Instant Deletion

Once the analysis is complete and results are displayed, no trace of your input remains in any system. There are no databases, no logs, and no records. Your scan is permanently gone the moment it completes.

The Technology Behind Privacy Check

Privacy Check is powered by Groq's large language model inference platform, running Meta's Llama 3.1 model. This combination provides exceptional speed and accuracy for our privacy analysis tasks. The AI has been trained on vast security research literature and understands the latest techniques used by attackers to exploit personal information found in email addresses and usernames.

Our frontend is built as a static website hosted on Cloudflare Pages, which provides enterprise-grade security and reliability. The entire analysis pipeline is serverless, meaning there are no persistent servers that could be compromised to expose user data.

What We Analyze — And What We Don't

It's important to be clear about the scope of our analysis. Privacy Check analyzes the observable patterns in your email address or username itself. This includes structural elements like name components, numbers that may indicate birth years, location references, and patterns that correlate with commonly targeted account types.

What we do not do: We do not query external breach databases, we do not verify whether your specific email has been exposed in any particular breach, and we do not make claims about specific services you may use. Our analysis is pattern-based, not database-based.

For confirmed breach checking, we recommend also using HaveIBeenPwned.com, which maintains a database of known breach records. Privacy Check and HaveIBeenPwned serve complementary but different purposes.

Our Privacy-First Architecture

Privacy Check was designed from the ground up with privacy as the core architectural principle, not an afterthought. We call this approach Privacy by Design. Every technical decision was made by asking: "What is the minimum data required to deliver this feature?" In almost every case, the answer was none.

We do use Google Analytics to understand aggregate site traffic, which helps us improve the content and tools we build. This data is never connected to anything you submit to the scanner.

We believe a privacy tool should practice what it preaches. Using Privacy Check should not itself be a privacy risk.

Limitations of Our Analysis

No automated tool can provide a complete picture of your digital security. Privacy Check is one valuable input among several you should use to assess and improve your privacy. Our scores are based on pattern analysis and general security best practices. A high score does not guarantee your account is secure, and a low score does not mean you have been compromised. Use our results as a starting point for improving your overall security posture, not as a definitive verdict.
